Saturday 20 December – BandJava

Live music at Casino CanberraBandJava plays Blues, R&B and modern roots music with a smattering of Jazz and Country. They love to hunt out some of those hidden gems by famous players that need to be given some extra life. Bandjava is a 5 piece band with female vocalist, guitars, bass and drums. All the band members have a history of playing both in Canberra and earlier careers around Australia and overseas.

You can always rely on Chris Harland and his eponymous band to serve up a high standard of searing Chicago Blues and promise to put on a performance that will not be forgotten in a hurry. UK guitarist CHRIS HARLAND brings the tradition of British-made Electric Blues, the authentic riff-driven Chicago sound, a high-voltage heritage of Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Peter Green.

Live music at Casino CanberraThe Leisa Keen Trio, consisting of Leisa Keen on piano/vocals, Richard Manning on guitar and Ian McLean on drums, has quickly become one of Canberra’s busiest and most popular jazz combos. The trio plays a smooth blend of well known jazz tunes, and a few pop tunes with their own “jazz treatment”. Leisa has shared the stage with artists such as internationally acclaimed jazz vocal group The Manhattan Transfer, Jon English, Simon Gallaher, Todd McKenney and many other talented entertainers. With a diverse range of both old and new songs, the Leisa Keen Trio is sure to delight people of all age ranges and backgrounds.

She has performed in New Orleans, the heart land of Jazz and she brings her special brand of up tempo jazz, blues and cabaret to be mixed with solid rhythms and melodic riffs of guitar and bass player Bryan Williams. Saturday 20 September – Tony Haley and the John Black Trio

Known affectionately as ‘Australia’s Ole Blue Eyes’, Tony performs the songs of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Michael Buble and Bobby Darin with consummate style and charm,  backed by local piano virtuoso, John Black and his band.

Tony began his musical journey in rock bands The Starliters, The Zarsoff Brothers, The Eddys and The Comets in the 1980’s and 1990’s, as well performing in stage shows with Glenn Shorrock and Doug Parkinson.


In Canberra he sings with the 18 piece ‘Connexion Big Band’, the blues band, ‘The Nightless Lovers’ and with The John Black Trio. Tony has recorded with each of these bands and also with The Blamey Street Big Band.

Live Music Saturday 5 July

Kooky Fandango is a well-established Canberra Jazz-Latin-Funk band formed by Peter Barta and Cameron Smith in 2006. Peter Barta on six-string bass and double bass provides a rich rhythmic and harmonic foundation for the elegant melodic adventures of Cameron Smith on trumpet and flugelhorn. Both Peter and Cameron are composer/arrangers, providing original compositions to supplement the repertoire of standards. Kooky Fandango usually performs as a trio with the fabulous Robert Nesci on drums, and has an extended family of other talented part-time members providing vocals, sax, trumpet, trombone, flute and percussion.
