Learn to play poker better.

Do you know when to hold'em?

This Australian Science Festival event will delve into the science behind the game of poker - covering everything from statistics, the turn of the river, and the odds and percentages involved, to biology, reading bluffs, and those telltale signs when someone has a good hand.

Experts in science, maths, and behaviour, along with pros at the game, will gather together to describe what is happening scientifically when you play a hand in poker.

The discussion will be followed by our very own demonstration, with a table lined up for some games with our professional players – and a few not so professional ones too! At the end of each hand, all will be revealed as the cards in play are shown and the panel experts share what they observed.

For those keen to try their luck and test their own skills, soon as our demonstration game comes to an end, head downstairs to the main Casino where a poker tournament has been arranged for the evening.

Come along to discover the scientific side to this game, find out what it really takes to play poker, and then get ready to put your own game strategies to the test!
